Single-ply Roof Membrane

A spring snow storm caused major hail damage to a single-ply TPO roof membrane that was only two years old. Although the membrane was not punctured in many locations, the insurer agreed to replace the roof because indentions in the roof from hail impacts would likely result in premature failure of the roof. After agreeing to replace the roof, the Owner's contractor became concerned about moisture in the lightweight concrete roof insulation.

N-J was retained to determine if the water was the result of the hailstorm, or was existing due to some other reason. N-J developed an investigation protocol that included test cuts in the roof at various locations, and a review of the underside of the roof deck to determine the condition of the structure.
