Server Rooms

Server rooms continue to change over time. Twenty years ago, a heavy server rack weighed up to 750 pounds. However, equipment manufacturers continue to compress servers into smaller spaces. We now frequently see server racks weighing over 1,000 pounds, and some getting up to 2,000 pounds. Although structures can often support that type of load from one rack, they have trouble because the server racks as generally pushed up right next to each other, producing loads that are much higher than the loads for which the structure was originally designed for.

N-J personnel have developed many solutions to support server rooms including re-spacing proposed equipment so that the existing structure is acceptable, and designing reinforcing to support the proposed loads.
